BECOMING A CEA OFFICER

STEP ONE: So you want to be an officer of the CEA...

A member who is interested in becoming a candidate for State office must submit to The Chairperson of The Advisory Committee a nomination resolution in accordance with the following procedures:

The member's Lodge PER Association shall present a resolution of nomination to the member's lodge at a regular meeting and the resolution must then be approved by the Lodge and certified by the Exalted Ruler and Secretary, dated, and carry the seal of the Lodge.

The nomination resolution document must be sent to the Chairperson of the Advisory
Committee with a copy sent to each Past State President and the Secretary of the Colorado Elks
Association after the Winter Quarterly Meeting and prior to the Spring Quarterly meeting.

The names and addresses of Past State Presidents may be found in the Colorado Elks Committee Directory under Advisory and Nominating.

Nominations received not in accordance with this provision will not be valid and will not be considered.

STEP TWO: Is it your district's "turn?"

The Colorado Elks Association is comprised of six districts: Central Northwest, Central Southeast, Mountain, North, South, and West.

A rotation schedule has long been established to ensure equal representation across the districts.

Check the schedule to determine when 3rd Vice President or Trustee is coming up for your district.

A caveat to the rotation schedule: If the District in rotation does not present for the office of Third Vice-President, then the Past State Presidents shall declare the District by-passed for that year and proceed to the next District in rotation.

STEP THREE: Are you qualified?

A candidate for President must meet the following qualifications:
• A candidate for President must have served a complete term as a Vice-President of the Corporation,
• A candidate must be PDDGER and/or or past State Trustee,
• A candidate shall have been active in the affairs of this Corporation for not less than three (3) years prior to their candidacy,
• A candidate shall be vetted by the Advisory Committee,
• A Lodge cannot nominate more than one candidate for a specific Office.

A candidate for Vice President must meet the following qualifications:
• Be a current or Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, or served as an Association (corporation) Trustee for a full three-year term,
• Have attended at least one of the leadership development team seminars (or its replacement) and/or
• Have served with distinction for at least three years as either Chairman of a state committee or a district chairman.
• A candidate shall be vetted by the Advisory Committee.
• A Lodge cannot nominate more than one candidate for a specific Office
• Past State Presidents are not eligible to be a candidate for a Vice President position. 

A candidate for Trustee must meet the following qualifications:
• Be Past Exalted Ruler for not less than three years,
• Have attended at least one of the leadership development team seminars (or its replacement), and
• Have served as:
               o District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler: or
               o With distinction served for at least three years as either chairman of a state committee or as  district chairman, or
               o An appointed Officer of the Corporation.

A candidate for Secretary or Treasurer must meet the following qualifications:
• Be Past Exalted Ruler for not less than three years,
• Must have experience in financial record keeping, and
• Have attended at least one of the leadership development team seminars (or its replacement), and
• Have served as:
              o District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler: or
              o Served as a past State Trustee, or
              o With distinction served for at least three years as either chairman of a state committee or as district chairman.

Waiver of any of these requirements can be made by a 2/3 majority vote of the Board of Directors after consulting with the Advisory Committee.

STEP FOUR: Can you make a multi-year commitment to the Colorado Elks?

The term of a State Trustee is 3 years.

The term of State Vice Presidents/Presidents is 4 years (3rd VP through President) PLUS 4 years post-presidency serving on the boards of the Past State Presidents and the Colorado Elks Association.
